Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao of China won the first gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris on Saturday after defeating Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun of South Korea 16-12 in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team shooting final.
Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev of Kazakhstan brought home the bronze medal after beating Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen of Germany 17-5 in the other match.
The gold medal match was tied 2-2 after the first two rounds and then the Chinese pair claimed the next two rounds to lead 6-2 before the South Korean coach called a timeout.
Huang and Sheng continued to expand their lead the match went on. They secured the match point with a 14-8 lead after the 11th round. Though Keum and Park cut their deficit to two points (14-12), the Chinese pair finished the competition in the 14th round to win their first Olympic gold.
