China begin 2024 Summer Olympics with two gold medals, one bronze

Chinese athletes finished the first full day of competition at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday by securing two gold medals and one bronze medal.

Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao defeated Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun of South Korea 16-12 in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team shooting final to win the first gold of Paris 2024 for China.

Later in the day, the diving duo of Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani dominated the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard final with 337.68 points, adding a second title for China, while extending the country's Olympic winning streak in the event to six consecutive editions.

The Chinese swimming team secured bronze in the women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay after Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, Zhang Yufei and Wu Qingfeng broke the Asian record in the event in 3:30.3. Australia won gold while setting a new Olympic record in 3:28.92. The USA earned silver after establishing a new American record in 3:30.2.

Although Pan Zhanle, Ji Xinjie, Chen Juner and Wang Haoyu didn't reach the medal stand in the men's 4×100-meter freestyle relay after finishing fourth in the final, Pan, who led off for China, broke the Olympic record by completing his leg in 46.92 seconds.

Vivian Kong Man Wai of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) won the first gold for her delegation after edging Auriane Mallo-Breton of France 13-12 in the women's fencing epee individual final.

Chinese badminton players Shi Yuqi and He Bingjiao, and the duos of Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, and Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong all beat their opponents on Saturday to advance in their competitions.

Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha eased through their first match in the table tennis mixed doubles event after sweeping past Omar Assar and Dina Meshref of Egypt 4-0 in 27 minutes.

Olympic hosts France won their first gold after defeating Fiji 28-7 in the men's rugby sevens final.
