Xie Yu claimed China's third gold at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, after winning the 10-meter air pistol men's shooting final on Sunday.
Finishing with a score of 240.9 points, Xie edged out silver medalist Federico Nilo Maldini of Italy by the slender margin of 0.9 points. Maldini's compatriot Paolo Monna secured the bronze with 218.6 points. The three medalists were the only shooters to surpass 200 points in the final.
Xie ranked in third after the first 10 rounds of shooting in the first stage of the final. Starting in the second stage, one shooter was to be eliminated after every other round, and Xie rose to the top after the 19th and 20th rounds.
In the decisive final four attempts, Xie scored 39.8 points to maintain his lead and seal the gold medal in the French capital.
