Huang Yuting of China secured silver in the women's 10-meter air rifle shooting final at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Monday, the 17-year-old's second medal in the French capital.
The final between Huang and Ban Hyojin of South Korea was extremely close, as the two ended up tied with 251.8 points after the regulation period's 24 shots. Huang led for most of the first 15 rounds, but was surpassed down the stretch by Ban, who scored 10.9 on her 16th attempt.
Huang fell 1.3 points behind with two rounds remaining, but she nailed shots worth 10.3 and 10.5 to outscore Ban, who underperformed with efforts of 9.9 and 9.6 over her final two shots.
Ban then sealed the victory by scoring 10.4 in the shoot-off, 0.1 more than Huang. Audrey Gogniat of Switzerland took home the bronze medal with 230.3 points.
On July 27, Huang paired with Sheng Lihao to win the 10-meter air rifle mixed team title, as the two teenage shooters claimed the first gold of the Paris Games on behalf of China.
