Madrid, CMG to enhance cultural and sports ties ahead of 2030 World Cup

Madrid, as a world-renowned city of culture and tourism, is an important window into Sino-Western exchanges, Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group (CMG), said during a meeting with Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés at Madrid City Hall in Spain on Monday.

Shen said that Real Madrid is almost a household name in China and recalled that Mayor Martínez-Almeida recorded Chinese Spring Festival greetings for CMG viewers last year and visited a pair of pandas on loan from China to Madrid Zoo earlier this year. Shen expressed hope to join hands with the city of Madrid in film and television, football, tourism and other sectors and jointly promote the development of China-West comprehensive strategic partnership, helping build a community with a shared future.

For his part, Martínez-Almeida said the CMG live broadcast during the Paris Olympics shows the power of China's new media technology to the world. He also noted that under the strategic leadership of the heads of state of China and Spain, cooperation and exchanges between Madrid and major cities like Beijing have become increasingly extensive.

The mayor also said that Madrid will host the World Cup in 2030 and expressed his eagerness for CMG's participation in the live broadcasts, expecting first-class production and broadcasting quality. He also announced a visit to China next year and expected comprehensive cooperation with CMG in tourism, sports, and other areas.
