Over 3,800 people evacuated after dike breach in central China river

A dike breach in the Juanshui River in central China's Hunan Province has led to the evacuation of a total of 3,832 residents, local authorities said on July 29. No casualties have been reported.

The breach in Yisuhe Township of Xiangtan County occurred at about 8 p.m. on July 28, and by 3:58 a.m. on July 29 it had widened to about 77 meters.

Hunan was forecast to experience heavy rainstorms and parts of the province were expected to see "extremely heavy rainstorms" from July 28 to 29 due to the impact of Typhoon Gaemi, according to the provincial meteorological bureau.
