Arab League, China Media Group sign cooperation agreement

The Arab League and China Media Group (CMG) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation on Tuesday, paving the way for collaborative efforts in various fields including the establishment, exchange and digitization of documentary archives, joint content production, media technology innovation, and personnel exchanges.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, the two entities plan to produce a documentary highlighting significant historical moments, past cooperation achievements and future development prospects of the forum. The documentary is scheduled to premiere at the second China-Arab Summit in 2026.

Shen Haixiong, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, engaged in detailed discussions with Arab League's Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit. They talked about cultural, sports and media cooperation as well as increased personnel exchanges. Chinese ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang also attended the meeting.

Gheit welcomed Shen and his delegation, praising the extensive cooperation between China and Arab countries. He expressed confidence that China's comprehensive reforms would bring new impetus to global development. He also commended CMG's achievements in media technologies like ultra-high definition, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, and spoke highly of the objective and fair reporting by CGTN.

Shen highlighted the outcomes of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee in Beijing, which introduced over 300 significant reform measures, emphasizing China's commitment to openness as a key aspect of modernization. Shen stated that China's reforms would provide new opportunities and momentum for global development, demonstrating China's willingness to share the benefits of its reforms with the world, including Arab states.

Shen also noted that China-Arab relations are at an all-time high, with successful cooperation across various fields, setting a benchmark for unity among developing countries and a model for South-South cooperation. He expressed CMG's readiness to deepen collaboration with the Arab League, contributing to the building of a China-Arab community with a shared future.

In recognition of CMG's outstanding efforts in promoting China-Arab friendship, Gheit awarded CMG a certificate for delivering friendship between China and Arab states.

The Arab League, established in March 1945 and headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, is the most influential organization in the Arab world, comprising 22 member states.
