Nearly 1,000 people have been rescued after landslides in the Wayanad district in India's Kerala state, authorities said on Wednesday, with at least 270 people dead and many still missing. On July 30, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on social media. The Kerala state government has announced a two-day mourning period for victims of the landslides, during which time all public activities and celebrations will be suspended. CGTN talked to one of the survivors at the site of the landslides, who recalled the situation at the time of the disaster, saying that it was an emergency and everyone tried to evacuate their homes to safety.
