Thirty people are dead and 35 others missing in Zixing City, central China's Hunan Province, due to heavy rains induced by Typhoon Gaemi, local authorities said Thursday.
Roads, electricity and communications have been largely restored in eight most affected townships of Zixing following Typhoon Gaemi's impact, the authorities said, adding that search and rescue operations continue for the missing.
On Thursday, China's National Disaster Reduction Commission raised the emergency response to Level II, the second-highest in the four-tier warning system, in Hunan as floods continue to batter the province.
As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, heavy rainfall had affected over 1.2 million residents in Hunan, local authorities said.
