After days of heavy rainfall, the Fengman Reservoir, a major reservoir on the Songhua River, is stepping up flood control and discharge efforts by opening its spillway tunnel to lower its water level. The Second Songhua River saw its first flood this year on July 27 as the water inflow into the upper reaches of Fengman Reservoir hit 9,010 cubic meters per second. Experts said that the current flood situation at the reservoir is mainly attributed to the intense rainfall between July 25 and 29 in the Huifa River Basin, the Fengman Reservoir Basin and the Baishan Reservoir Basin. To cope with the situation, authorities relocated and resettled the affected residents along the river and dispatched personnel to patrol the embankment round the clock, identify risks in real time and report them in a timely manner.
