Nestled in Chamdo, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, Ranwu Lake is a glacial lake surrounded by the snow-capped mountains. Formed hundreds of years ago due to a landslide or mudflow that blocked the river, Ranwu Lake is one of many such lakes in the geologically active southeastern region of Xizang. It has become a popular destination for travelers on the Chengdu-Lhasa Highway.
Ranwu Lake is the largest lake in the eastern part of Xizang, sitting at an altitude of over 3,800 meters and covering an area of more than 20 square kilometers. Its unique natural landscape and strategic location have earned it a reputation as a must-see destination. The melting snow from the surrounding mountains continually replenishes the lake, ensuring it remains full of water throughout the year.
The vibrant rocks at the lakebed and the varying depths of the surrounding valleys create a mesmerizing spectacle when sunlight refracts through the lake water. The lake appears a striking emerald-green overall, with the center sometimes taking on a blue hue and the edges shifting to shades of amber. This gradual change in color adds a touch of mystery to the beauty of Ranwu Lake, making it a true paradise in Xizang.
