Chinese athletes won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals on Friday at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics to keep the country on top of the medal table with an overall total of 13 golds, nine silvers and nine bronzes.

Huang Yaqiong and Zheng Siwei beat Jeong Na-eun and Kim Won-ho of South Korea 21-8, 21-11 in the mixed doubles badminton final to secure the first title in the sport for China at Paris 2024. Not only did the Chinese pair make up for their regrets of finishing second at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games three years ago, but they also became the latest mixed doubles "Grand Slam" duo after adding Olympic success to their previous titles at the World Cup and World Championships.

Liu Yuchen, who paired with Ou Xuanyi in the men's doubles badminton competition for China, proposed to his girlfriend Huang with a diamond ring after the mixed doubles final.

"Would you marry me," Liu asked Huang, who was already crying tears of happiness. Congratulatory messages were sent to the couple by their teammates, coaches and fans.
