As of August 2, 2024, more than 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers for rail-sea intermodal transportation have been delivered via the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the highest level for the same period in all years, according to China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd.

The channel is located in the hinterlands of the western regions in China, connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt from the north, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road from the south and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

More than 3.1 million TEUs for rail-sea intermodal transportation have been transported via the trade corridor since China launched the overall plan about it five years ago.

During the past five years, the transportation time was reduced by nearly 20 percent and the transportation capacity was increased by 6.5 percent.

Over the past 5 years, the network of rail-sea intermodal transportation along the corridor has expanded from 14 provinces to 18 provinces around the country. The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor reaches 518 ports in 124 countries and regions worldwide. The cargo transported has grown from 94,000 TEUs in 2019 to 861,000 TEUs in 2023, an increase of 8.16 times.

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor's signature rail project, which links Huangtong railway station of southwest China's Guizhou Province and Baise City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is under construction. The main projects of the Nanning-Pingxiang Railway, which connects Guangxi's capital city Nanning to the border city Pingxiang, have been completed, and will start operation next year. According to the plan, construction of the whole corridor will be completed by 2025.
