Japanese shares surge in opening trade after Monday's historic losses

Japanese stocks have rebounded sharply after their biggest single-day rout on Monday. The benchmark Nikkei rallied by 8.1 percent in early trade on Tuesday. South Korean stocks opened up 3.7 percent. At a news conference, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida urged people to "judge the situation calmly," and said that his government would monitor the situation.
