Chinese diver Quan Hongchan makes history at 2024 Paris Games

Chinese athletes secured one gold, three silver and two bronze medals on Tuesday at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

In the top diving contest on the women's 10-meter platform at Paris Aquatic Centre, Quan Hongchan of China defeated her teammate Chen Yuxi to defend the title of the event after winning it at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. Quan (425.6 points) scored epic 90 points in her first dive. Chen came in second with 420.7. The bronze went to Kim Mi Rae of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) who got 372.1 points.

Having pocketed three golds at the two Olympic Games she participated in, Quan, 17, has become the youngest three-time gold medalist of China in history.

Boxer Yang Wenlu added the women's 60-kilogram silver for China after fighting the Irish champion Kellie Harrington in the final at Roland-Garros Stadium.

Cao Liguo and Meng Lingzhe earned one silver and one bronze medals respectively for China. Cao fight the gold medalist Kenichiro Fumita of Japan in the men's Greco-Roman 60-kilogram final. Meng beat Mohamed Abdellatif from Egypt in the men's Greco-Roman 130-kilogram bronze medal match.

China's Zhao Jie reached 74.27 meters in the women's hammer throw final to secure the bronze medal of the event. Camryn Rogers of Canada won the gold with 76.97 meters and Annette Echikunwoke of USA had the silver with season-best 75.48 meters.

Team China will compete in more gold medals as the 2024 Paris Games goes on. Wu Yu and Yang Liu have entered the women's 50-kilogram and the women's 66-kilogram boxing finals. The Chinese artistic swimming team held a huge lead of 69.42 points over USA in the second place after the technical routine and free routine performances.
