Today is "Liqiu," or the Beginning of Autumn. It is the 13th of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar. Although it is called the Beginning of Autumn, it is the third hottest solar term of all the solar terms, second only to Great Heat and Slight Heat. There is a custom in China to eat watermelons at the start of autumn, also known as "Biting Autumn," where people eat watermelons and other fruits to fend off the summer heat accumulated in the body during the hot days.
