A long-distance running event called the "Marathon Pour Tous" or "Marathon for All" will send amateur runners along the routes used for the marathon events at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday.

More than 40,000 runners will participate in a 42-kilometer event and a 10-kilometer race. The route will pay tribute to a key moment from the French Revolution, the Women's March on Versailles, as the runners journey past the Grand Palais and Eiffel Tower, and then return to the finish line at the Esplanade des Invalides.

"In 2019, we came up with this concept of the Marathon Pour Tous [Marathon for All] and for the first time in the history," Aurelie Merle, Executive Director Sport Competitions for Paris 2024, said.

"To give the opportunities to spectators to become actors, and for them to have the opportunity to run on the same course and on the same day as the Olympic athletes," she added.

"So marathon being the most emblematic event of the Game[s], it was a good symbol for us to give this opportunity on this unique course, to give this opportunity to 40,048 people. So 20,024 per course, because we have two courses."
