Russia claims it has battled intensely against a major cross-border incursion from Ukraine for a second day. Valery Gerasimov, chief of Russia's General Staff, said Ukraine's advance into the Kursk region was stopped. Russian officials say at least five civilians have been killed, and thousands have been evacuated.
