Champions at Home: Syrian parkour youth 'fly' in ruins

03:29

The war in Syria destroyed the Olympic dream of former Syrian gymnast Ahmed Sawas, but it can't force him to give up his passion for sports. He assembled a group of young people with similar aspirations to become athletes so they could train in gymnastics at his club and perform parkour in the war-torn area. Sport heals the trauma brought on by the conflict, reigniting the hopes of local youth. Even though the training equipment is simple and crude, and the chances of competing overseas are dim, Ahmed still hopes to lead his team to international competitions in the future, particularly the Olympics.
