At least 14 people were injured in Miyazaki, Kagoshima and Kumamoto prefectures in Japan following a major Pacific coast earthquake on Thursday, local media reported Friday.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued on Thursday its first-ever warning of the risk of a huge earthquake on the country's Pacific coast, following one of magnitude 7.1 that struck Miyazaki Prefecture and other areas in southwestern Japan the same day.
Due to the warning of a possible "megaquake," Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has canceled his planned visit to Central Asia and Mongolia on Friday. "I have decided to stay in the country for the next week or so to ensure our preparations and communications are in order," Kishida told a press conference.
