Belarusian air defense forces destroyed several targets over their territory launched from Ukraine on Friday, most likely drones, Belarusian news agency Belta quoted President Alexander Lukashenko as saying on Saturday.
Lukashenko said the incursion happened in the country's eastern area, and the air defense forces of Belarus were put on high alert to intercept targets.
The Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus have been instructed to carry out appropriate measures in order to reliably ensure the security of Belarus, Lukashenko said.
"Why Ukraine needs this, I don't understand. We need to figure it out. But, as I said, we clearly defined ourselves with them and conveyed this information to them that any provocations will not go unanswered," Lukashenko was quoted as saying.
He said that some objects also flew to neighboring Russia and were intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defense systems.
There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian authorities on the accusation.
