Hideo Shimizu, a former member of Unit 731, the notorious Japanese germ warfare detachment during World War II, identified the Japanese army's crimes at the site where he served 79 years ago in China on Tuesday.
At 10:30 a.m., he arrived at the Monument of Apology and Peace to express his remorse and apology.
"I sincerely apologize and express my remorse to the Chinese victims, the victims of Unit 731, and those who lost their lives," he said.
