Argentina's World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez has singed a five-year contract extension with Inter Milan, according to The Athletic.
"I am very happy to have extended my contract with our Inter and I am proud to have the privilege of continuing to wear the captain's armband to defend our colours as I have always done since the day I arrived in Milan," Martinez posted on Instagram. "We have a long season ahead of us and we need all of you. Thank you so much for the support, affection and love you have always shown me."
The new deal will enable Inter to keep Martinez until summer 2029. He became a "Nerazzurri" in July 2018 when Inter paid Racing Club 25 million euros (about $27.3 million) to bring him to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Martinez has scored 129 goals and delivered 43 assists in 282 appearances for Inter since then, helping the club win two Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia championships among other honors. They made the UEFA Champions League final in the 2022-23 campaign, but lost to Manchester City.
Martinez was the Serie A Most Valuable Player and top scorer with 27 goals in the 2023-24 season. He won the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar and Copa America twice in 2021 and this year with Argentina.
German football transfer site transfermarkt.com values Martinez at 110 million euros (about $120.3 million), his highest that reached in December 2023.
