China Spallation Neutron Source Spectrometer Hall. /CMG
China's first neutron total-scattering spectrometer—the multi-physics spectrometer, jointly built by the China Spallation Neutron Source Science Center, Dongguan University of Technology and City University of Hong Kong—has completed more than 300 user experiments in the recent three years since it was put into operation, according to the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The research areas of the multi-physics spectrometer include batteries and energy, chemistry and environment, alloy materials, rare earth, and magnetic materials, among others. It provides a research platform in the fields of materials science, physics, chemistry and the environment.
A series of key technological breakthroughs have been made during the development of the multi-physics spectrometer. The first domestically produced position-sensitive helium triple-tube detector was successfully developed and realized in engineering applications, which laid a solid foundation for the subsequent independent development of spectrometer detectors.
The multi-physics spectrometer supports cutting-edge research and technological development for universities, research institutes and enterprises, including those in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and plays an irreplaceable demonstration and leading role.
