Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that Kyiv's forces were continuing to advance in Russia's Kursk region and that they had moved forward one to two kilometers in various directions since the start of the day.

In a video posted on his Telegram account, the Ukrainian president was shown speaking via video with his top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, who said Ukrainian forces had captured 100 Russian soldiers during the cross-border incursion on Wednesday.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has taken control over 74 settlements in the Kursk region, and "inspections and stabilization measures" are being carried out in those settlements, and reparations for Ukraine's "next steps" are also underway.

Kursk regional authorities have already ordered evacuations, while the neighboring Belgorod region has declared a regional state of emergency due to the escalating situation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Monday that Ukraine's attacks on Russia's border will receive a "worthy response."

Ukrainian forces crossed the Russian border last Tuesday and broke into parts of Russia's Kursk region and Zelenskyy confirmed on Monday that Ukraine is carrying out an "operation" in the region.

Russian authorities said 12 civilians, including an ambulance crew and a pregnant woman, were killed and more than 120 people, including children, were wounded in the Kursk region so far.
