China plans to use three to five years to gradually integrate emerging digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence into the entire chain of the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), promoting the sharing, circulation and reuse of TCM data. The goal is to initially achieve effective data integration throughout the entire industry, and to build a "Digital and Intelligent TCM."

The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the National Data Administration have jointly issued guidelines for promoting the development of digital TCM, proposing 20 specific measures.

In terms of consolidating the foundation of digital TCM, the guidelines propose to establish unified TCM data standards, strengthen data security and cultivate TCM professionals with digital skills.

Digitalization enables the high-quality development of TCM. The guidelines encourage the development of intelligent electronic medical record systems with TCM characteristics to enhance the intelligent collection capability of TCM data. Through digital transformation, the service capabilities of TCM will be improved.

In order to cultivate TCM talents, the guidelines also note the digital learning resources for TCM, using digital technology to replicate the diagnostic and treatment process of famous and experienced TCM doctors, recording teaching behaviors digitally, etc.

In addition, the guideline makes deployments for TCM scientific and technological innovation, industrial development and cultural communication.
