China has built the world's largest and most comprehensive supply chain for new energy equipment, a senior government official said on Thursday.

Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), attributed China's rapid progress in energy efficiency to this robust supply chain. The country reduced its energy intensity, a measure of energy consumption per unit of economic output, by 7.3 percent between 2021 and 2023, he said.

Zhao made the remarks at an event celebrating China's second National Ecology Day, August 15.

China leads the world in new energy capacity, expanding at an unprecedented pace, according to Zhao. The country has held up the top spot in photovoltaic equipment manufacturing for 16 years in a row, supplying 70 percent of the global market. Additionally, China accounts for 60 percent of the world's wind power equipment.

The market penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China has reached 35.2 percent, surpassing that of other major economies, according to official statistics.

The NDRC issued guidelines for green transition on August 11, making the transition one of the hot topics in China recently.

In addition to listing the country's major achievements in its green transition, China also convened expert seminars to advance ecological development on National Ecology Day.
