Beijing Guoan were held to a 0-0 draw by Zhejiang Pro at home on Friday night. They remain in fourth place with 42 points after 24 games, nine points behind third-placed Chengdu Rongcheng, who have played 23 games.
Beijing created more scoring opportunities than their opponents, but failed to turn any of those chances into goals. In the 11th minute, Fabio Abreu set up a one-on-one opportunity for Cao Ziming, but his shot was blocked by Zhejiang goalkeeper Zhao Bo.
Guoan were awarded a free kick right in front of Zhejiang's box in the 57th minute. Guga's pass, followed by attacks from Zhang Chengdong and Michael Ngadeu, led to chaos among Zhejiang's defense. But the ball hit the post and a foul was called on Zhang.
Zhao ran out of the box in the 80th minute, but failed to clear the ball. That gave Zhang Yuning a chance to shoot at an open goal, but Sun Zhengao returned in time to block his effort. Zhang had another chance on the ensuing corner kick, but his header hit the post.
Zhang was then sent off with a red card by the referee in the 88th minute after elbowing Sun in the face. Three minutes later, Beijing's Yang Liyu fell to the ground while battling for a header in the box, but the referee refused to rule the incident as a foul.
