Zuozhuan is the first sustained narrative work of history in Chinese literature. It is in the form of a commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals which lends its name to one of the most vibrant periods of Chinese history, from 770 to 476 BC.

Famous for its detailed accounts of historical events as well as its orderly structure and creative writing, Zuozhuan still informs the worldview of Chinese people today.
