Cooler summer evenings have brought more cyclists onto the streets of Beijing. On Saturday, the city launched the "Beijing under the Moonlight" event to unveil 10 new routes for curious and adventurous riders. Yuan Jiayi has the story.

YUAN JIAYI Dongcheng District, Beijing "What's the best way to spend your evenings in Beijing? On a bike, weaving through Beijing Hutongs is something you should not miss. What's the best cycling route to experience ancient Beijing's lively atmosphere? A perfect starting point is right here – the Bell Tower and Drum Tower Culture Square in Dongcheng District. Let's ride and see how Beijing comes alive at night."

The route connects cultural landmarks such as the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, Lama Temple, and Imperial College. It also covers popular night-time tourist destinations like Guijie Street, Shichahai, and Gulou East Street.

Cycling enthusiasts can use GPS technology to track their progress, and even map trips in the shape of Chinese characters "北京" that spell Beijing.

CLAIRE Cycling Enthusiast "Everyone is working in the daytime and Beijing is a very fast city, I think. You can just slow down and relax in the evening, feel the wind and you'll be free to go everywhere. It's a kind of lifestyle I think."

TAMEA Tourist "If you're just walking there and then you can just decide to just quickly to rent a bike for very cheap and then you can just cycle around the whole Beijing. And there're also like cycling roads, so it's a bit safer than just on the road or on the walking way. I like it to just go with the bike because you're faster sometimes and if it's hot the wind is like making you a bit cooler."

YUAN JIAYI Dongcheng District, Beijing "Do you feel that roaming through the Hutongs just isn't enough? That's okay. Beijing has ten themed cycling routes that you can choose from – including 'The Most Beautiful Beijing Central Axis,' 'East of the Forbidden City,' 'Canal Stories' and the 'Peking Opera Tour.' You can cycle any route you like to admire the charm of ancient buildings up close while enjoying the vibrance of Beijing's nightlife."

To create a safe cycling environment, Beijing's Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau is reminding citizens and tourists alike to abide by traffic laws and regulations, and to ride in a civilized manner. Beijing has also launched a discount "Moonlight Cycling Card" to provide cyclists with a more convenient and economical riding experience. Yuan Jiayi in Beijing for CGTN.
