China is willing to play a constructive role in helping Myanmar achieve peace and reconciliation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday in Beijing, the capital of China.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with Julie Bishop, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' special envoy on Myanmar.

He said that China firmly supports Myanmar in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity.

No one wants Myanmar to restore stability and development more than China, Myanmar's largest neighboring country, Wang said.

Expressing her gratitude to China, Bishop said she is willing to maintain close communication and cooperation with China and ASEAN to reach a consensus to resolve the Myanmar issue.
