Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that there cannot be any talks with Ukraine after its attack on Russia's border Kursk region, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

"The president made it very clear that following the attacks on the Kursk region, any talks are impossible," Lavrov said in an interview with local media.

Meanwhile, he refuted some allegations that the two countries made contacts mediated by a third party, claiming them to be pure rumors.

The top Russian diplomat also indicated that the entire process within the frames of the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland is unacceptable for Russia because "it is about promoting the Zelenskyy formula as an ultimatum."

"There is now deep uncertainty over the future of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine after Ukraine's attacks on Russia's border, and the game between the two sides is further intensified," Su Xiaohui, Deputy Director of the department of International and Strategic Studies at the China Institute of International Studies told CMG on Monday.

"From the current perspective, the effect of Ukraine's recent strike is still in doubt. On the one hand, the move is a major morale boost for Ukrainians. But on the other hand, the West is afraid the move will affect Ukraine's tactics, especially the fighting after Ukraine entered Russian territory. Ukraine may suffer heavy losses in wars of attrition." Su said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that the Ukrainian army has taken control of 92 settlements in western Russia's Kursk region.

Ukrainian troops have seized more than 1,250 square kilometers of Russian territory, Zelenskyy said on social media platform X.

"The Russian border area opposite our Sumy region has been mostly cleared of Russian military presence," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian army continues its military operation in the designated areas of the Kursk region, he added.

Ukraine started a military operation in the Kursk region on August 6. On August 15, Oleksandr Syrsky, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said that his army had captured 82 settlements in the region.
