Lin Suiling, as captain of the Chinese women's national wheelchair basketball team, will go for the top of the podium with her teammates at the coming 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

Bron in 1991, Lin joined the Guangzhou City women's wheelchair basketball team when she was 17. Five years later, she was recruited by the Chinese national team. Having been named the team's captain in 2018, she led her teammates to secure the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, finish the Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2023 as the runners-up and win the gold medal at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, in 2023.

Tied to their chairs which are like their leges, players show remarkable skills on the court after developing and refining them via daily hardworking. The sport opened a new world for Lin, though she faced a lot of questioning voices when she began to play basketball.

"I still remember what they said," Lin told China Media Group (CMG). "'Can she do it? She's so short and tiny.' Some veterans had similar concerns too. There was a coach telling me that, a player in my size must work hard to shoot well. I was a little unhappy when I hear them at the beginning, but I blocked those noises and focused on training in the following month."

Lin later met coach Chen Qi who provided a lot of help to her, in both sharpening her skills and overcoming her fear. She has been growing better and better in the following years into today’s scoring ace of the team.

"I'm very proud to play at my third Paralympic Games," Lin said.

"Of course, everyone wants to win the gold at the Para Games in Paris," Chen told CMG. "Our goal is to retain the silver and go for the gold. Even if we fail to do it in the end, we will have no regret after giving our best in this process."
