China's Zhao Shuai and Mao Jingdian are poised to showcase their talent in the inaugural mixed doubles table tennis event at the Paris Paralympics.

Zhao and Mao have each won four Paralympic gold medals and are gearing up to play in the Paralympics.

The pair have won mixed doubles gold in the Thailand Open held in July. The 29-year-old Zhao will also feature in the singles and doubles in Paris and was one of the eight flag-bearers in the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

He has been partnering with Mao for about a year and says there are big challenges and pressure ahead with both admitting they need to up their work rate.

"We have some strong opponents including Ukraine and France and a lot of big challenges are ahead of us. There are ups and downs in our training and we need to try our best to make adjustments and fully show our ability," said Zhao.

"He practiced so hard and after I saw him training, I found that I worked not hard enough," Mao said.
