Chelsea have agreed to sign Joao Felix on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday. According to ESPN, Chelsea will pay Atletico 50 million euros (about $55.7 million) including add-ons for the Portuguese striker, who signed a seven-year contract.

If Chelsea send Felix away in the future, 20 percent of the revenue generated by that transfer will go to Atletico.

Felix played 20 games for Chelsea and scored four goals on loan during the 2022-23 campaign. He was sent to Barcelona on loan last season, and tallied 10 goals and six assists for the Spanish La Liga heavyweights.

"I'm really happy to be back at Chelsea and I can't wait to get started," Felix said. "I can see some familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice. I loved my time here before and I told my friends and family that I'd love to return to the Premier League one day. To do that with Chelsea is a great feeling and I'm excited to be back."

Atletico paid a club record 127.2 million euros (about $141.7 million) to acquire him from Benfica in 2019. He scored 34 goals and distributed 18 assists for the club in 131 games, but failed to find his best form under coach Diego Simeone.

Felix became Chelsea's 11th signing during the summer transfer window. They have spent a total of 241 million euros (about $268.5 million) landing players. Last season, they nearly doubled this figure with 464.1 million euros (about $517.1 million), but finished sixth in the Premier League.
