Rescue efforts are underway in Huludao City and nearby counties in northeast China's Liaoning Province after days of heavy rain washed away roads and bridges and disrupted power supply and telecommunications.
Helicopters and airmen were deployed by the Northern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) after torrential floods, triggered by excessive rainfalls, hit some villages in Jianchang County.
Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, two helicopters and 30 airmen were sent to transfer some 300 trapped villagers in Jianchang County. Another two helicopters were sent to Xingcheng City in Huludao at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday to monitor the situation and rescue trapped villagers.
Airmen are currently working at 15 sites around Huludao. By 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 23 civilians, including two who had sustained injuries, had been transferred to a shelter at a middle school in Jianchang County.
