Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that last week's high-level consultations, the Senior Officials Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue ("2+2" ministerial dialogue), reflected the strategic nature of bilateral relations, stating that the talks marked a new chapter of strategic mutual trust and security cooperation between the two countries.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when co-chairing the 5th Meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Beijing.

China has always viewed and developed its friendly relations with Indonesia from a strategic and long-term perspective, and is willing to work together to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, Wang said.

Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Indonesia, political trust between the two countries has deepened continuously, yielding fruitful results in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Wang said.

Noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and next year will be the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, Wang said that China is willing to work closely with Indonesia on international and regional affairs, jointly promoting the spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Ten Principles of the Bandung Conference.

For her part, Retno stated that China has become one of Indonesia's most important strategic partners.

Noting that the bilateral trade and investment have grown significantly over the past decade, Retno said that Indonesia highly values the strong mutual trust and deep friendship established with China, and will seize the opportunity of the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations to develop even stronger ties with China.

Indonesia is also willing to work closely with China in multilateral cooperation, uphold multilateralism, and strengthen South-South cooperation, Retno said.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Myanmar issue and the Gaza conflict.
