Health authorities in Gaza report that more than 40,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war with Israel broke out on October 7 last year. They said 50 Palestinians were killed overnight by Israeli attacks across the Palestinian enclave. The rising toll comes as ceasefire and hostage release negotiators began another round of talks on Saturday in Cairo. Little progress has been made. Israel wants control of a Gaza-Egypt buffer zone, while Hamas demands a complete ceasefire in Gaza. Azmi Hassan, a senior fellow at Nusantara Academy for Strategic Research in Malaysia, explains.
