The annual Golden Deer Awards recognizes achievements in 10 categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.

The festival comprises outdoor and indoor public screenings, forums, summits and symphony concerts, highlighting Changchun's cultural significance as the birthplace of Chinese cinema.

Its goal is to inspire and nurture innovation and creativity in Chinese filmmaking, thereby contributing to the industry's growth.

Known for its rich history and cultural heritage, Changchun established its first festival in 1992. Since 2021, the festival has changed from a biennial to annual event.
