The European Commission has announced it will level provisional duties on Chinese EVs, which will range from 17.4% to over 38%. There have been mixed responses so far, with German car manufacturers saying Chinese responses could cause more harm than the new tariffs are meant to protect. So, what’s the consideration behind the EU’s tariff wall? Will the tariffs be able to prevent European consumers’ access to high-quality, low-price Chinese EVs? And what are the likely countermeasures from the Chinese side to protect its interests?
