Editor's Note: Fiji was the first Pacific island nation to establish diplomatic relations with China and 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Both countries have always supported each other and set an example of equal treatment and friendly cooperation between countries large and small. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CGTN's Wang Guan sat down with Sitiveni Rabuka, prime minister of Fiji, in Beijing, the last leg of his official visit to China after Yunnan, Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. President Rabuka witnessed firsthand China's achievements in development and poverty eradication under Chinese President Xi Jinping's leadership. "President Xi is one of the world's great leaders," he tells Wang Guan. He looks forward to deepening cooperation with China, noting that Fiji will modernize "at its own relative pace." As a keen environmentalist acutely aware of the threats posed by climate change, he says Fiji will not over-exploit its resources and pledges to build an "ocean of peace."
