Pingding, a county in north China's Shanxi Province, has a rich tradition of producing exquisite pottery that dates back more than 2,000 years. Known as "Pingding Shaqi" or Pingding sand ware, this national intangible cultural heritage is made of high-quality clay sourced from the region.

The creation of Pingding sand ware is a meticulous process that involves highly skilled craftsmanship at every stage, from the selection of materials to the final glazing. It is produced in a variety of forms, such as pots, bowls, ladles, jars, teapots and flowerpots.

Renowned for its practical and unique qualities, Pingding sand ware preserves the color of rice, the flavor of stewed meat, the potency of herbal medicine, the aroma of tea, and even promotes the health of plants in flowerpots. Deeply rooted in everyday life, it has earned the affectionate nickname "Artwork for Common People."
