China is ready to work with Japan to push for the sound and stable development of China-Japan relations along the right track, Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said on Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Toshihiro Nikai, chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' Union, in Beijing.

Hailing Nikai's long-term participation in the cause of the China-Japan friendship, Wang said upholding the general direction of peaceful coexistence, everlasting friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples.

The leaders of the two countries agreed to build a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship that meets the demands of the new era, providing strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations, he said.

Noting that the current bilateral relations are at a critical stage, Wang urged the Japanese side to establish an objective and correct understanding of China and pursue a positive and rational policy towards China.

Nikai and other representatives of various Japanese political parties said they will continue to work to stabilize and improve Japan-China relations, promote people-to-people exchanges and exchanges between legislative bodies, and enhance mutual understanding to promote the common development and progress of both countries.
