On July 13, 2024, Japanese drummer Funky Sueyoshi and his band, Bu Yi, successfully staged a musical collaboration with the Beijing Chinese Orchestra, blending rock music with traditional Chinese music. In the 1990s, soon after arriving in China, Funky Sueyoshi became fascinated with the ethnic components at play in Chinese rock music. Indeed, so much so that he came to identify this as the defining characteristic of Chinese rock - the quality that sets it apart from the rock of other countries and regions. Now after 34 years of distinguished service in the Chinese rock scene, Funky can truly say that he's found a real home right here in China!
