Chinese athletes continued their excellent performance on Day 2 at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris on Friday, adding another eight gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.
Zhou Xia secured the first athletics title for China after winning the women's 100-meter T35 final in 13.58 seconds. Not only did she set her own season-best record, she also extended her winning streak of the event to three Paralympics.
Zhou's compatriot Guo Qianqian earned the silver medal of the event in 13.74 seconds.
Di Dongdong and Chen Shichang joined each other on the podium after the men's long jump T11 final. Di set the new world record at 6.85 meters to pocket the gold. Chen finished the competition with 6.5 meters as the runner-up.

Yang Hong achieved breakthrough as well in the swimming pool of the men's 200-meter individual medley SM6 final by improving the world record to 2:37.31 and winning the race.
Peng Qiuping, Yuan Weiyi, Jiang Yuyan and Guo Jincheng dominated the mixed 4x50-meter freestyle relay 20 points final in 2:14.98, setting a world record.
Winning was not the only way to make an athlete's country proud at the Paralympic Games. For example, China's Zhang Bowen finished the men's 400-meter freestyle S11 final in the eighth place, but he managed to finish the race, displaying the Olympic spirits of challenging himself and never giving up. That's why spectators at Paris La Defense Arena gave him thunderous applause.
