Guess how strong the wind is in Burqin County, Xinjiang? CGTN reporter Chen Xiaoshu recently visited a wind farm in Burqin County, Altay Prefecture, in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Burqin County is in one of the top 10 wind zones in Xinjiang. That means the region has relatively rich resources for wind energy.
Local data shows it has an annual effective wind speed of nearly 3,000 hours. By the end of 2023, the county's wind power capacity reached 1.7 million kilowatts. The Altay region is the only region in Xinjiang that has rich solar, wind and hydropower resources at the same time. It is also an important clean energy reserve and undeveloped area in Xinjiang, with local data showing the total clean energy output reaches more than 526 million kilowatts.
