China's railways recorded 887 million passenger journeys from July 1 to August 31, up 6.7 percent year on year. The country's airlines reported 137.5 million passenger trips from July 1 to August 29, increasing 11.8 percent compared to a year earlier.

Inbound tourism picked up momentum with a notable rise in tourist arrivals. The Paris Olympics drove the outbound travel boom for Chinese tourists, with the number of travel bookings to Paris up 129 percent year on year and car rental bookings in Europe up 170 percent year on year.

Domestic cultural tourism also surged this summer, with 37,000 cultural and tourism consumption activities hosted across the country and study tour orders tripling.
