Tel Aviv municipality services will participate in a half-day strike on Monday in solidarity with the hostages and their families, Mayor Ron Huldai announced on Sunday.
"Tomorrow, beginning in the morning until midday, there will be no reception of the public (at our offices) and we will allow all employees to go out and support the families' struggle," he wrote on X.
The strike is taking place across several municipalities in Israel after the bodies of six Israeli hostages were brought back from Gaza. Israel now believes that 101 people remain in captivity in the Gaza Strip, including 35 who are believed to be dead.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid on Sunday called for a strike to shut down the economy in order to pressure the Israeli government to reach a deal to release the remaining hostages.
Lapid, who is also a former prime minister, called on every Israeli "whose heart was broken this morning" to join a major protest in Tel Aviv later in the day. He also called on Israel's main labor union, businesses and municipalities to go on strike.
According to Israeli media, the powerful Histadrut labor federation, which represents hundreds of thousands of public sector workers, has also called for a general strike on Monday.
