CMG signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Zimbabwean media outlets to strengthen ties

China Media Group (CMG) signed memoranda of cooperation on Tuesday with Zimbabwe's Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and The Herald, the country's leading daily newspaper.

The memoranda were signed when Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and a state visit. The two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of these memoranda.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of CMG, signed the memoranda with Zimbabwean Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava.

In recent years, CMG has developed strong ties with these three organizations and engaged in productive cooperation. To further enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Zimbabwe and strengthen their traditional friendship, both sides have agreed to collaborate on content sharing, program co-production, personnel exchanges and technical cooperation. This partnership aims to deepen media cooperation, reinforce the long-standing friendship between the two countries, and elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services of Zimbabwe oversees the dissemination of information and broadcasting services, formulates media policies, and manages news organizations to promote citizens' rights, national development and sovereignty. The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, a state-owned media entity, operates multiple radio stations and television channels, broadcasting in English, Shona and Ndebele. The Herald, founded in 1891, is Zimbabwe's oldest newspaper and has the largest circulation.
