Waset, better known around the world today by its Greek name, Thebes, served as the capital of ancient Egypt for long stretches during the Middle Kingdom (2040-1782 BC) and New Kingdom periods (1550-1069 BC). A city well ahead of its time, Thebes was home to a number of architectural marvels, many of which have survived to this day in present-day Luxor, southern Egypt. In this video, we take a quick look at one of the most important urban centers in ancient times.
